MORE WDL Try-It-Outs!

Here comes the next WDL Try-It-Out opportunity - Monday December 3, 4-6pm. Come to the Band Room and work with Dylan, Mike, and Krystle and see what it's all about.

"But McKee - I'm a horn player and I don't know how to hit things with sticks!"

That's OK - we have a couple of options for you:
  • We'll teach you how to be a percussionist - and you'll become a better horn player through the process
  • <> (new this year) we might add you to the ensemble WITH YOUR HORN!! Intrigued? Come Monday and discover the possibilities!
Yay!

WDL Try-It-Outs!

Hey Band! (hey, what??)

Every thought about how much fun it would be to do the whole marching thing, but indoors?? Winter Drumline just might be your thing! Our first WDL Try-It-Out will be Monday November 26, at 4pm in the THS Band Room. Mike and Krystle will be there and people will be trying things out (oh, you see what we did there). Never played percussion before? That's OK - we'll teach you!

Can't make it this week? No worries - more Try-It-Out days to come, in the near future!

Championships Week!!

We've been doing this together since mid-August, and now our journey is nearly complete. NWAPA Championships are this week, at Autzen Stadium!

We'll rehearse Monday and Wednesday at the usual time (with sectionals beforehand, for some groups), and Friday 10-2. Loading will follow at 2:30. At that point, a short afternoon nap might be great, along with some food. Be back at the school by 5:30, with everything you will need for the trip to Eugene (see the list on the sidebar).

Once we're packed up and ready to go, we'll head to Tualatin, to cheer on our football team AND our friends in the TuHS band. And after the game, we're off to Eugene!

When we arrive in Eugene, we will (VERY QUIETLY!) get room keys and head to bed - lights out 30 minutes after we arrive. That means go to sleep - no texting, social media, Netflix, or anything else - you need to be well-rested for Saturday.

Saturday we are up at 6:30 am. Time to dress (no jacket, yes bibs). Be at the hotel breakfast area by 6:55, and remember that there are many other people eating breakfast who are not part of our group. We are always polite.

Once we are finished with Prelims, we will return to the hotel to pack up, and then you will have the opportunity to go our to eat with band friends, at one of the approved restaurants. We will the return to Autzen, and await Prelim results. Check out the schedule to see how the rest of the day will go.

Make sure you look at the Travel Expectations on the sidebar, along with the list of what to bring.

Championships - yay!

Now We Know What It's Like

OK friends, we have one competition under our belts (as they say, whoever "they" are). And now you know what's up. This week is a bit different:
  • First, there is no field availability on Wednesday. So we will work to make the music part of our show as excellent as we can.
  • Second, Friday is the Statewide Inservice Day, so that means we can hold a daytime rehearsal! It's been on the calendar since August, so this is no surprise.
    • 10 am - 2 pm
    • Eat protein, carbs, and fats before you arrive. Fuel is imperative.
    • Bring water, and sunscreen. It is supposed to be sunny. And bring snacks. Good snacks.
  • Third, Friday is also the Homecoming Parade. Buses will depart THS beginning at 3:45 for the Rite Aid parking lot. Please bring a healthy snack to eat for between rehearsal and the parade. Not greasy pizza. Greasy pizza will be served AFTER the parade.
  • Fourth, Friday is also the Homecoming Game. We do not yet know how much time we will have to perform, so be prepared to play part of the show. Perhaps the Ballad and Closer.
  • Fifth, Saturday is the Sunset Classic. One of our favorite shows. Please go home and get good sleep, and be ready to perform well on Saturday. Bring your best self to the performance.
Let's do this!

WE ARE TIGARD.

And so it begins...

Hey Band! (hey, what)

Our first marching competition is upon us, and we're ready! Remember these things:
  • Eat protein, carbs, and fats. Your body needs fuel.
  • Drink water. And maybe some Gatorade. And water.
  • Do not stay up writing that History paper, or talking to your bestie, or pondering the meaning of life. Get some good sleep.
  • Remember that we wear pep and shorts or athletic-style pants under the bibs. No jeans. Never, ever.
  • Bring along some snacks, if you wish.
  • And have some fun.
We're going to have a great competition.

WE ARE TIGARD.

Let's Play For An Audience!!

Here it comes - our first public performance! Here's what YOU need to do, to get ready:
  • Make sure you are at BOTH rehearsals this week - Monday, and Wednesday. There are many reasons given to miss rehearsal, but the only legitimate reasons involve colonoscopies or brain surgery.

  • Eat well, and get reasonable sleep. Remember, you are in training. Good restorative sleep and good nutrition are essential. And water. Drink water.

  • Make sure to do your homework in a timely manner. Keeping up with your studies means you will not have to choose between math and music.

  • Make sure you have food on Friday to eat after school. Call time is 5pm, and you will need good nutrition beforehand.

  • HAVE FUN!!

BAND CAMP IS HERE!!!

WOW - it's time for Band Camp!
Here's what's up:
  • First, read the previous post. Much good information here.
  • Second, let's talk about how you get to Band Camp.
    • ALL ACCESS to the school is through the doors at the end of the hall with the band lockers.
    • Park or get dropped off in the Swim Center parking lot. Walk through the Cafeteria and up the covered walkway to get into the school. Please have your ride stop near the 2nd entrance to the Cafeteria past the big tree - this will help with traffic flow.
    • Meet your ride after Band Camp outside the Cafeteria.
  • Third, let's talk about in-building access.
    • We can be in the areas East of Main Street
      • Band Room
      • Choir Room
      • Guitar Room
      • Practice Rooms
      • Rotunda
      • Hallway near Library Main Entrance
      • Cafeteria
        • We can utilize the restrooms in the Cafeteria - others are not available to us this week
        • We MUST be quiet - Broadway Rose is in residence and has late morning and matinee performances this week
        • We MUST be respectful of the equipment in the Cafeteria that is not ours
  • Fourth, let's talk about outdoor access.
    • We access the stadium field by walking clockwise around the rear of the school on the fire lane, traveling behind the School Based Health Center, track sheds, etc. We enter the field near the baseball concession stand.
    • We DO NOT access any part of the construction zone. Even if a gate is open, we DO NOT access any part of the construction zone. That includes through the Band Room front door, and the music hall front door. They will remain closed AT ALL TIMES.
  • Last, PLEASE make sure you are well-hydrated and that you eat breakfast. Carbs, protein, and fats are essential to physical activity. We will have 2 nutrition breaks each day, so make sure you bring healthy lunch-type food. And water, of course.
See you Wednesday!

One Week! One Week! One Week!

Oh my goodness - Band Camp is only one week away! What do you need to know??

  • It's gonna be HOT HOT HOT! So YOU need to hydrate for days before we get there.
  • It will be sunny. Sunscreen is your friend.
  • Drink water.
  • A hat will protect your head.
  • Light colored loose fitting clothing will be helpful.
  • We wear shirts and shorts. We don't wear booty shorts. We don't wear jeans.
  • Drink water.
  • Good closed-toed shoes are a must. No boots, no flip flops.
  • Marching band is very physical. Between now and then, spend at least 20 minutes, three times per day involved in good physical activity.
  • Drink more water.
  • Your body needs fuel to do good work. Eat lean protein, healthy grains, good fruits and veggies. Soda and coffee are NOT your friends.
  • Make sure you are practicing your instrument EVERY DAY.
  • Water is the elixir of all goodness.
