Tigard Keeps Going, and Going, and Going!

Wow - what a great football game at West Linn! Unless you're a WL fan, and then you probably don't agree...

So now it's on to the Semifinals! Here's the 411:
  • Semifinals will be played on Black Friday, November  24
  • Game time is noon, at Hillsboro Stadium
  • Opponent is Clackamas
  • Call time is 10:30 am at THS
  • Buses will transport to and from
    • Will you be out near Hillsboro Stadium that morning? Email McKee to discuss how you could arrive directly
  • We will pep, pep, pep! (And this time, we will have seats and be under cover - yay!)

"But McKee, it's Black Friday and I HAVE TO SHOP!!!"

Hey, I have to shop too! And the great thing is that stores open VERY EARLY and you'll have plenty of time to get those half-price socks at Fred Meyer and whatever else is important to you and still come and pep. Why? Because we're the band, and that's what we do!!

When will we be done? Probably around 2:30ish, with a return time to THS around 3:30. WHICH LEAVES PLENTY OF TIME FOR MORE SHOPPING!! AND LEFTOVERS! AND HOLIDAY MOVIE-WATCHING!!

Time Flies, When You're Having Fun

It's the last week in October. Where did the time go???

Here what is coming up in the very near future:
  • MB has our 2nd and final 4-hour daytime rehearsal this Friday 10/27. Here's what you need to know:
    • Be ready by eating protein and good carbs and drinking water before rehearsal begins
    • Arrive before 10 am and be ready to rehearse by 10 am
    • Understand that we will rehearse until 2 pm
    • Come ready to work together to get our show in tip-top shape!
  •  Our final regular season football game is this Friday 10/27 - versus Tualatin!
    • Call time for pep band is 6 pm - and we'll wear our NEW pep shirts!!
    • Call time for MB is 5:30 pm - full uniform!
    • Make sure EVERYONE knows Thriller - it's what we're playing for the Tigerettes
  •  The Century Showcase competition is this Saturday 10/28. And the weather forecast looks amazing - soooo happy! Check out the schedule on the sidebar.
  • Look for the NWAPA Championship schedule to be posted on the sidebar in the next day or so. PLEASE NOTE: because our performance time is at a reasonable time in the morning, WE WILL NOT travel to Eugene Friday night. We will leave early Saturday morning.

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT!

Things are moving pretty fast around here. If you don't stop and check it out, you might miss it (apologies to Ferris Bueller). Here's what's up:
  • The amazing Tigard High Marching Ensemble went to their first competition of the season and swept Class A in Prelims, and raised their own overall score by 1.6 points in Finals - wow! Now, students are busy learning the closer. Yay!🎵
  • Speaking of MB and learning, remember that we have a 4-hour rehearsal this Friday on the inservice day. Be on the field, ready to go, at 10am. We will rehearse until 2pm, with a snack break from 11:45 - 12:15. Wear weather-appropriate clothing. 🌂
  • Speaking of Friday, at the end of rehearsal we will gather in the Commons for a special ceremony honoring Tiffany Reekie, who has been chosen to perform at the US Army All-American Bowl Game in San Antonio in January - WOW!!! So plan to hang out until 2:30 or so, as the US Army will be here to talk about how fabulous she is! 🏁
  • Speaking of Friday, we also have a football game! Call time for MB is 5:30 - for pep band call time is 6pm. Remember, it's a Pink Out. The forecast says the rain should be gone by then. Keep your fingers crossed! 🏈
  • And our final note today is about the Spring performance trip to Disneyland. There is an important change you need to note: we have shifted the trip by one day. We will now leave on Thursday March 29 and return Tuesday April 3. The main reason for the change is that if we had stayed with the previously-announced dates, we would have had to increase the price of the trip by $100 - airfare was very high for those dates. By shifting it to a Thursday/Tuesday trip, there was a dramatic decrease in airfare. So that's what we did, and it's final. CLICK HERE to check out the flight information.

Competition Week 1

OK friends, here it comes. Our first competition of the season is this Saturday at Hillsboro Stadium.  The weather looks good for the week, so there should be nothing that gets in the way of our rehearsals. Please keep these things in mind:
  • Attendance at rehearsals is essential. If you have a good reason to miss,  change your plans and have a really good reason to instead be there. OK? OK.
  • Practice good nutrition and sleep habits this week. Protein, good carbs, and water. Stay away from caffeine and soda.
  • Make sure you are current in your classes. You'll be busy all day Saturday, so that limits the amount of time you have to be able to spend on class work.
  • Check out the schedule on the sidebar.
  • Talk to your adults, so that they know when to come to see you. Here are the ticket prices:
    • Adults - $15
    • Students/Seniors - $10
    • Youth K-12 - $5
    • Pre-K and younger - Free
  •  Be ready to have a really great time!

Game Day!

It's time for THS Football, along with THS Band!
Friday call time for marchers is 5:30 pm, and we'll decide at that point whether to uniform or not. Non-marchers, check with Irving for your call time.
Here we go!

Thursday, September 21, 2017

Let's Go To Linfield!

We have been invited to go out to Linfield College and play pep, pep, pep for their (really, really good!) football team. Yay! We have performed at Linfield in the past - they have no marching or pep program and instead they bring in high school bands from the region to entertain the crowd. Now it's our turn - and they give us a performance stipend. As in, money. Wow!

Here are the details:
  • Saturday, September 30
  • 10am - call time
  • 11:15ish - unload and stage equipment
  • 12:30 pm - EAT PIZZA!!
  • After - pre-game pep
  • 1 pm-ish - SSB
  • 1st half - pep and more pep
  • Halftime - Tigard High presents White Blank Page!
  • 2nd half - even more pep
  • After - load up and head home
  • Sometime between 5:30 and 6 pm - arrive THS and go home
MB will wear the uniform; everyone else will wear pep and decent jeans or nice walking-style shorts. The forecast is for temperatures in the mid-70s and mostly sunny, so wear sunscreen, and don't forget your water.

Let's do this!

Tuesday, September 19, 2017

Band Camp Is Over!

Hey folks, we've had a pretty successful band camp and we're ready to do some serious work on the ballad when we get together next week. Here are a couple of things to know:
  • We do NOT have rehearsal on Monday September 4. That is Labor Day, a Federal holiday, so the school will be closed.
  • If you didn't know that we have no rehearsal on Monday September 4, you need to check out the calendar over on the sidebar. The one that says "McKee's MB Calendar!".
  • Since we don't have rehearsal on Monday September 4, it is even more important than normal for you to hold yourself accountable to rehearse your parts. Those who wish may get together with fellow bandmates and have a field sectional on the turf. Please be aware the temperature on Monday is forecast to be 100 degrees, so if you decide to have a field sectional, make sure you go over early in the day. No heat sickness for us!!
Have a great Labor Day Weekend, and we'll see you Wednesday evening!

Eclipse and Band Camp

The eclipse is upon us!  So what does that have to do with Band Camp? Well, the bosses over at District Office want to make sure no one has any trouble with their vision because of the eclipse, so no students will be allowed on campus until noon on Monday August 21. No football practice, no Band Camp - nothing until after noon.

You have all received safe eclipse viewing glasses courtesy of Mr. Fulton (Thanks, Mr Fulton!!), so please be safe and do the right thing - no looking at the sun without those protective glasses, and plan to be at the band room and ready to rehearse by noon.

If you run into any post-eclipse traffic issues, please text McKee so that we know what to expect. And keep those eyes safe!

BTW, CLICK HERE to see information on the timing in Tigard!

And then we'll begin our regular M/W 5-9 rehearsals on Monday August 28.

  1. Our Famous Garage Sale begins Friday August 18, the 1st Friday of Band Camp. For that day only, we ask you to show up at 7 am and help set up tables and move sale items into place so that everything is ready to go and we can earn LOTS OF MONEY. The Band Boosters will provide you with a good breakfast, and we'll be ready to hit the ground running at 9.
  2. The End-of-Camp Picnic is Friday August 25, the last Friday of Band Camp. We will rehearse until 5 pm, take a short break, and then play a little music at 6 pm for your adult-types before eating terrific BBQ food. We'll ask your adults to bring something to contribute - that information will be noted here when the time gets closer. For now, make sure your adults know about this picnic and make sure it's on their calendar.
The forecast is calling for pretty warm weather, so Mr. Mister will be available and there may even be an opportunity to have a MB swim at McKee's - stay tuned!

Get ready - here we go!!

Balloon Festival Is Right Around the Corner!

Well, the 2017 year in band is just about finished - whew! So now, it's time to think about next year - yay!

Here are two things to keep in mind:
  • The famous Tigard Color Guard and Marching Band Try-It-Outs are Monday and Wednesday June 12 and 14, from 5 - 8 pm. No experience needed! Come and see what we're all about, and maybe YOU'LL want to join our award-winning group! Bring a friend - the more, the merrier! Location: THS Band Room.
  • The Festival of Balloons in Tigard is one of the band program's biggest fundraisers of the year. To sign up, CLICK HERE and choose what you want to do, and when. We provide security monitors for the Festival itself, and we also sell food and drink concessions during the Festival soccer tournament. This is a great way to earn funds to help out with Fair Share Fees, or to raise funds for that Spring band tour to Disneyland! And remember, an adult MAY fill a Student job, but a student MAY NOT fill and Adult job.
Yay Band!
