May 6 - Afternoon rehearsal 3 - 4 pm
May 13 - Afternoon rehearsal 3 - 4 pm
May 14 - MANDATORY BAND BOOSTER MEETING! 7 PM, THS Cafeteria. All band students, including incoming freshmen. All parents. You MUST be there! And, there will be CAKE!!!
May 17 - Latin Night 7 pm - THS Cafeteria
May 21 - Afternoon rehearsal 3 - 5 pm
May 22 - Spring Band Concert - 7:30 pm curtain
May 28 - Jazz Concert (incl. Fowler and Twality Jazz) - 7:30 pm curtain

5:30 pm Load equipment truck – THS

Saturday

7:10 am Arrive THS – check for last-minute items/issues

7:30 am Load bus – leave

8:15 am Arrive West Salem High School – unload trailer and set up garage (quickly!). Warm up when set up
10:10 am Transit

10:20 am Cadet showtime!

10:30 am Back to truck

11:10 am WDL showtime!

11:20 am Back to truck - secure equipment
11:45 pm In the stands, watching groups

1:15 pm Relax and eat some good, nutritious food
2:10 pm Watch OCI!

3:30ish Cadet showtime!

5:45ish WDL showtime!

After Load quickly – after loading, dinner! Food you bring - or better yet, purchase from West Salem HS, our hosts!

7:30 pm Watch OCI!

8:00 pm Awards!

8:30ish Leave – head home

9:30ish Arrive THS – unload and go home!

I-5 South approx. 30 miles - Exit 260A (Salem Parkway)

Follow Salem Parkway approx. 4.5 miles

Continue onto Commercial Street NE- travel ½ mile

Turn Right on Marion Street NE - continue onto Marion Street Bridge

Exit Right onto Wallace Road NW – travel ½ mile

Turn Left onto Orchard Heights Road NW – travel 1.8 miles

Turn Left onto Titan Drive NW – West Salem High School is on the Left

Who Is McKee?

I really like (in no particular order) Economics, Marching Band, my students, Jesus, my family, politics, NewsHour, jazz, cats, snow, MLB (yes, Portland needs a team!), the US Constitution, hardwood floors, Christmas trees, social justice, ESPN, Margaret Truman mysteries, camping, and a whole lot of other stuff. Why Newberg is Important to Me

Newberg holds a special place in my heart. Although I have not lived there since 1977, I am a proud Newberg High School graduate. It was at NHS that band director Dick Elliot gave me the confidence to become a life-long percussionist, and choir director George White helped me develop the singing voice that led to my participation in the Portland Symphonic Choir, the chorus of the Oregon Symphony. Social studies teachers Dan Lever and Ed Wiesehan instilled in me the understanding that the names and dates of events are such a small part of learning about history – they helped their students see the how and the why, and led us to discernment and interpretation, essential components of critical thinking. And for me, the influence of these four educators and several others at Newberg High helped me to decide to pursue a career in education. *** Newberg is where I met the man I married, introduced by a friend in the lobby of Pennington Hall at George Fox College (now University). Newberg is where both of my daughters moved for their own post-secondary experience, each graduating from Fox. I have many dear friends in Newberg, including those in my faith community. Newberg is where my parents-in-law retired, living the final years of their lives at the aging-in-place community at Friendsview. *** Newberg is a town of 25,000+ in the heart of Oregon Wine Country, with both small-town shops like Chapters Books & Coffee and suburban-type businesses including Fred Meyer. Community events include the 1st Friday Artwalk, Wednesday (evening) Market, the Summer Concert Series at the Chehalem Cultural Center, the yearly Old Fashioned Festival, and much more. Newberg is one of my favorite towns, for so many reasons.
