Hey Color Guard!

(hey what?)

Winter Guard rehearsal for tonight, Monday December 9, is cancelled. We are under a Winter Weather Advisory for snow and freezing drizzle, which makes driving potentially very hazardous. So, in the interest of safety, stay home and plan on a great rehearsal Wednesday!

Craft Fair!

It's time for the Craft Fair! Please make sure you arrive early for your shift, and be kind and polite with all the crafter, customers, and each other.  And if your job is to work with trees and wreaths, MAKE SURE you dress very VERY warm! Temperatures will be in the 20s all day, with brisk east wind. So this is not the time for cute or clever fashion - it's time for smart and sensible warmth.

See you there!

Wow - it's already time for basketball season! This is a great thing for us, because we are the sole food concessionaires for THS Basketball, and we get ALL THE MONEY for our Band Program - yay!

Here's how it works:
  • Every student who is part of a Tigard High Band performing ensemble is required to work concessions at least once during the basketball season. This includes:
    • Jazz Band
    • Concert Band
    • Symphonic Band
    • Wind Ensemble
    • Percussion Ensemble
    • Fall Marching Band
    • Winter Guard
    • Winter Drumline
  • Students who enjoy concessions work may work more than one shift, but may not sign up for additional shifts until everyone has signed up once. Scholarship recipients are encouraged to work more than one shift. There are 18 total opportunities during the basketball season - 6 per month.
  • Parent-types are required at each concession event. One is OK - two are better.
  • Games are on Tuesdays and Fridays, with games Wednesday and Saturday during the 1st week in December. Shifts typically begin at 4:30pm and finish around 9ish. Adults may arrive by 5:30, if schedules conflict.
  • McKee opens each concession event.
  • A Closing Team is essential to the success of our concessions events. The Closing Team is made up of 2 - 4 adults who are trained in closing procedures, who work just a few games each (with a much shorter time commitment!). One member of the Closing Team will come to THS toward the end of the game to coordinate the concessions workers in putting away all food, supplies, etc. and the cleanup of the concessions stand. This should take only 30-45 minutes. (Being a member of the Closing Team is a GREAT way to COMPLETELY AVOID actually selling any hot dogs or nacho cheese!)
  • Please know that a reliable Closing Team will allow McKee to not have to cover closing 18 concessions shifts. That would be very nice. Please consider being part of this group.
  • Concessions signup sheets have been posted since Wednesday November 27 in the Band Room, with slots for 3-4 students and 1-2 parent-types for Tuesday games and 4-5 students and 2-3 parent-types for Friday double-headers.
Want to see the schedule, and maybe send in your shift request right away? ? Check out the link on the sidebar, and then send an email to kmckee@ttsd.k12.or.us

Yes, there's playoff football tonight! Yes, it's going to be cold! Yes, we're going to be there!
Make sure you wear layers. Polypro, longjohns, wool socks, snow pants, parkas, stocking caps, Russian earflap hats - you need to be as warm as possible! And there will be handwarmers for you, so that will be very helpful!
Call time is 6pm - see you then!

EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS!!!

There seems to be a bit of confusion about the Macy's Day-After-Thanksgiving Downtown Portland Parade gig. Here's the deal:
  • Tigard High IS marching in the parade, which is early on Friday November 29. Macy's is paying us to be there. And we're using the money to keep from having to raise WDL and WG fees.
  • Bus leaves at 6:00 am (note change!)
  • Step-off is 8:45 am
  • We're done and back on the bus by 10 am (at the very latest)
  • We arrive back at Tigard High before 10:30 am
EVERYONE is expected to do this parade. There is something for EVERYONE to do.
   "Hey McKee!"
   "Hey what?"
"Who is included, when you say 'EVERYONE'?"

  • Concert Band
  • Symphonic Band
  • Wind Ensemble
  • Jazz Band
  • Marching Band
  • Winter Drumline
  • Winter Guard
The only exceptions are those who will be physically unable to attend, because they are not in the Greater Portland/Vancouver area that day. If this applies to you, you MUST sign up on the "I'm Going To Be Out Of Town" list in the band room, with your name and your Friday destination. And you MUST tell Irving AND McKee personally.

"But - but - but - what if I want to go Black Friday shopping?!?!"
"There is PLENTY of time to shop early (Fred Meyer Half-Price Socks Sale starts at 5am!), and after we get back. Yay!

So unless you are exempt, if you are/were in one of the THS Band Program ensembles this year, we will see you at rehearsal next Wednesday.

"Aye?"
"AYE!"
