Balloon Fest Week Emergency!

If you no longer have a student in the THS Band and Orchestra program, feel free to delete this message (but also feel free to stick around and read it). And if you DO have a current student in our program, please take a moment and see if you can help us out.

As we continue to rebuild the band and orchestra programs, one of the most difficult things has been restoring our volunteer base. Instrumental music programs rely on the involvement of parents and other interested adults - there are so many things that we do and we need many more adults than we have on staff. And this week we are up against a very difficult challenge.

We have been a part of the Tigard Festival of Balloons for 19 years, by providing volunteers to help with directing people at critical locations throughout the Festival grounds. Most of the work is done by students, but we absolutely MUST have a few adults on every shift to help out. And while our students have done a good job signing up, we are missing adult volunteers on several crucial shifts, and missing a few students as well. 

For this volunteering, we are paid a stipend, which is credited to the band and orchestra accounts of the students (and their adults) who are volunteering. That student account can be used for any band or orchestra-related expense including music lessons, trip expenses (Disney!), a new case, valve oil - you get the idea.

BIG INCENTIVE!! Signed up already? If you sign up and volunteer for a 2nd (or 3rd!) shift, your stipend amount will increase by $1/per hour! YAY!
