Well, folks, the program for me to do most of what I do to communicate with you has crashed and burned - can you smell the smoke? :(
OK, so we'll improvise. We need adults to work in several areas of RhythmFest. Food and Security are the biggest needs, as well as Tickets. Here's how to sign up:
Food - Email Stephanie H and list your three preferred times to work - morning, mid-day, or evening, in order of preference, with any special information she would need to know. sharlow623@hotmail.com
Security - Email Karen D and list your three preferred times to work - morning, mid-day, or evening, in order of preference, with any special information she would need to know. krizkid90@yahoo.com
Tickets - Email Laurie W and list your three preferred times to work - morning, mid-day, or evening, in order of preference, with any special information she would need to know. whitehousenw@comcast.net
Tomorrow afternoon we'll open up the time slots to band members to choose when they will work, so if you want the best shot at getting your favorite time, choose soon!
RhythmFest signups will be available after 5pm Thursday - check back and see what YOU can do for RhythmFest!
Also, Friday is the GBX/BBX Doubleheader against Forest Grove. This means more hungry people for us to feed - YAY! Working concessions on Friday are Ally E, Tyler P, Patrick B, Frannie W, Linda E (Parent), and Cathi P (Parent). I'll see you all between 4 and 4:30PM!
It's time for the Security and Food committees to meet! Here's the schedule:
Security - 6 PM
Food - 7 PM
Place: McKee's classroom.
Don't know where you're going? Just go through the Band Room and out into the hall. Head up the stairs and turn left at the top - go to Room 215 in the corner!
Tonight it's Tigers vs. Tigers, and I predict the Tigers will win! And all those Tigers will be hungry! Working to keep them happily fed will be Cynthia S, Nick P, Joey G, and Gayle G (Parent). See you all at 5:30!
Well, look at all that snow! The forecast is for rain by mid-day, so we'll procede as usual.
That means feeding hungry fans at the basketball game tonight! It's BBX vs. Canby, and after the way the girls took care of those Cougars last night, you know the Canby fans will be wanting revenge, and that will make them hungry! Working tonight will be Nick B, Bernie G, Sierra B, and Joan S (Parent) - we'll see you around 5:30.
Also, the Food Committee for RhythmFestwill be meeting Wednesday February 11 at 7pm. We'll convene in the Band Room, but may move to McKee's classroom. If you can't find us, head up the stairs by the band lockers and turn left - we'll be in Room 215 in the corner.
For those of you looking for Blake tonight, the performance schedule has been modified. It appears Radiohead will be on sometime after 10pm, so just keep listening for them to be announced and you'll still see Blake up front. And to check out what the reviewers say, click hereand read all about it!
For only the 2nd time ever, musicians from the USC Band will appear on the Grammys, and for the 2nd time, a Tigard High School drummer will be there! Blake Phillips, our own curly-headed drummer/oboe player extraordinaire from THS Class of 2007, will appear with Radiohead in the opening act. And who was the previous Tigard grad to have such an honor? None other than Trevor Phillips, Blake's older brother!
Watch Blake on the Grammys - Sunday February 8 at 8pm Pacific on KOIN TV Channel 6 - and don't be late! He'll be in the front right corner as you look at the screen.
A big THANK YOU! to Doug and Janeen Loughin for stepping up to help last night - we appreciate it! Here's what's next: let's feed the fans as Tigard takes on McMinnville Thursday! Working at this game will be Alyssa D, McKay F, and Sue D (parent). Call time is 5:30 - see you then!
Time for the boys to play Forest Grove, and for the band to feed those hungry Vikings! Working concessions tonight (Tuesday 2/3) are Kyle Me, Michelle W, and Celena D, and call time is 5:30. We are in dire need of a parent-type to be here as well. Can YOU do it? Contact McKee right away!

Why Newberg is Important to Me
Newberg holds a special place in my heart. Although I have not lived there since 1977, I am a proud Newberg High School graduate. It was at NHS that band director Dick Elliot gave me the confidence to become a life-long percussionist, and choir director George White helped me develop the singing voice that led to my participation in the Portland Symphonic Choir, the chorus of the Oregon Symphony. Social studies teachers Dan Lever and Ed Wiesehan instilled in me the understanding that the names and dates of events are such a small part of learning about history – they helped their students see the how and the why, and led us to discernment and interpretation, essential components of critical thinking. And for me, the influence of these four educators and several others at Newberg High helped me to decide to pursue a career in education.

Newberg is where I met the man I married, introduced by a friend in the lobby of Pennington Hall at George Fox College (now University). Newberg is where both of my daughters moved for their own post-secondary experience, each graduating from Fox. I have many dear friends in Newberg, including those in my faith community. Newberg is where my parents-in-law retired, living the final years of their lives at the aging-in-place community at Friendsview.

Newberg is a town of 25,000+ in the heart of Oregon Wine Country, with both small-town shops like Chapters Books & Coffee and suburban-type businesses including Fred Meyer. Community events include the 1st Friday Artwalk, Wednesday (evening) Market, the Summer Concert Series at the Chehalem Cultural Center, the yearly Old Fashioned Festival, and much more. Newberg is one of my favorite towns, for so many reasons.
